Tyco Suzuki's Josh Brookes this evening became the quickest-ever first night newcomer in the history of the Isle of Man TT with his third flying lap of more than 114mph.

The Aussie had done one lap behind rider liason officer Richard 'Milky' Quayle before setting off on the GSX-R1000 for his first ever unescorted laps, which culminated in the record-breaker. Ice Valley's ??? was second fastest on a 113mph lap.

"The first lap behind Milky was fairly sedade, just following so we knew where we were and to be honest, if he had gone into a hedge, I would have followed him," said Brookes, speaking to bikesportnews.com from the Island.

"Then, on the first lap on my own, it felt like everything was a bit out of sync, like watching a video where the audio doesn't quite match. After that, though, it all sorted itself out and the second and third were fine.

"I can clearly see where you can push much harder than I was but that is for another day. I didn't have any bum-clencing moments, really. A pheasant ran out in front of me head down arse up at Glentramman but that was ok."
