Pata Honda's Leon Haslam wants to be back on a bike for his home World Superbike round at Donington Park early next month following successful surgery on the leg he broke at Assen on Friday.

The gritty Derbyshire man had his leg pinned in an operation at Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham yesterday afternoon to secure the breaks in his tibia and fibula and is expecting to be home on Friday. He was operated on by Professor Moran, who has also looked after F1 driver Mark Webber and spud-u-like Wayne Rooney.

"Professor Moran did a brilliant job because there was a complication with the break as it was so close to the knee. The doctors in Holland wanted to plate it, but we had some consultations and decided to come back here for the operation," said Haslam's wife Oli, speaking to bikesportnews.com this morning.

"Of course, Leon being Leon, he wants out of hospital now but it will be Friday, we think, before he is released. He has said he wants to ride at the Donington Park round, and it is a case of the recovery starts now for him."
