Tyco BMW’s Ian Hutchinson made up for his disappointment in the opening Supersport race on Monday by storming to victory in this morning’s Superstock TT, taking the win by 22s from Peter Hickman with Manxman Dan Kneen taking his first-ever podium spot in third place.

Hutchinson was unstoppable on the S1000RR, leading from start to finish despite the best efforts of Smiths BMW’s Hickman who took his third top-three finish in as many races while Kneen, who hails from Braddan, was over the moon to finally stand on the box in a TT race.

Hickman trailed wily old veteran Michael Rutter, who opened with the fastest sector on lap one, as his bike cut out a couple of times on lap one but then got into his stride and moved into second place at the Grandstand with a 130.539 compared to Hutchinson’s 131.109.

Kneen also suffered with bike problems, having to turn his BMW off and on again going into Ramsey, but it didn’t slow him too much.

Rutter had to fend off a late charge from Dean Harrison who struggled in the middle of the race but then found some pace after the pitstop and set a 131.040mph lap on the fourth to finish just 1.140s behind the Bathams/SMT man.

Harrison had taken his Silicone Kawasaki past Michael Dunlop’s Suzuki initially but then dropped behind the Ballymoney man. It took him until Ballaugh on lap four to get back past on corrected time after setting two fastest sectors but he just didn’t have enough to catch Rutter.

Dunlop finished a country mile ahead of brother William for sixth place while David Johnson took eighth. Jamie Coward bagged ninth place with Horst Saiger in tenth. Dan Hegarty, Martin Jessopp, Sam West, Brian McCormack and James Cowton completed the top 15.
