In a frantic qualifying session that started with the track fully wet, and was drying by the lap at Knockhill, TAG Racing’s Jake Hill managed to wrestle his #24 VW Passat CC into a hard-earned P16 on the BTCC Grid today in Scotland.

After an encouraging P11 in the first practice session, a mixed session in practice two saw all three Team HARD cars struggling for pace, so changes were made in time for qualifying.

“We started well and were really pleased with first practice, then were struggling in the second session. We scratched our heads and had a plan for qualifying…then it rained!” smiled Hill.

As qualifying started, all 32 cars squirmed there way around the twisty narrow Knockhill circuit, and late on a brave decision by Dave Newsham to switch to slick tyres saw the field quickly follow suit.

Despite being held up on a couple of occasions, Hill barged into P2, then was up and down the order as each driver improved by the lap as the track dried.

On his final lap, a committed lap saw the BRDC Rising Star cross the line in P16 - and P8 in the all-important Independent Category.

“Really please with the job and grateful to the TAG Racing boys for a mega job done. We can fight for points from there - let’s see what the weather brings!”
